Kathleen Jean Mary Hurford

Kathleen Jean Mary Hurford (aka Kay) passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on February 20, 2024 at the age of 97.

Predeceased by her loving husband George John Hurford (aka Jock) whom she married in 1944. Also predeceased by her son in law Edward (aka Ted) Walker.

The youngest daughter of Charlie and Edith Chown, Kay and Jock ran Haven Farm in Courtenay where they raised Don Hurford, Charlotte Nickel (Wes), Wendy Walker (Ted) . For many years Kay also worked bookkeeping in town. After retiring to Coombs and then Qualicum they enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. They were active in the Coombs United Church for which Kay knitted, and baked. Her hobbies included sewing, smocking children's dresses, needlepoint, reading and gardening. 

Kay enjoyed time with her grandchildren and step grandchildren. Dianna Hurford, Brian Hurford (Leah), Jonathan Nickel, Jessica Nickel, Erin Boyes (Troy),  Alisha Enns (Robin) and Roy Walker(Chen Yi). Great grandchildren Aeneas Wolfersten, Brinley and Rozlyn Hurford, Aiden and Tyler Boyes, and Sophia and Ethan Enns. She enjoyed regular outings with her Goddaughter Donna Gendron . 

For the past three years Kay has been a resident of Eagle Park in Qualicum Beach.  We are forever grateful for the caring compassionate staff.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm, on Aug 11, 2024 at Yates Memorial Services 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC.
